April Watkins was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010 within three months of enrolling at Plymouth University!
Following surgery and aggressive treatment, April has made a good recovery and graduated in 2013.
But brain tumour research is woefully underfunded. It receives just 1% of the national spending on cancer research and at this rate, it could take another 100 years to find a cure.
Professor Oliver Hanemann leads our world-leading research into low-grade brain tumours. His unique work enabled us to partner with the charity Brain Tumour Research to become a Centre of Excellence, one of only four in the UK.
Working with the charity, and with the support of staff, students, businesses and the community we can fund the research towards new potential cures and treatments for this devastating disease.
It costs £2,740 a day to run our research laboratories, please show your support, take up the challenge to beat last year’s total. Thank you.
