Description

Plymouth University has ambitious plans to build a prestigious £14.8 million research facility to provide a research-intensive environment fit for world-leading scientists to investigate a range of devastating diseases.

This state-of-the-art facility will have a transformative effect on the medical landscape within the region while enhancing the impact of the University’s research, both locally and internationally. It will enhance synergies, derived from collaborative working between researchers and clinicians, to attract national and global research expertise.

Ultimately, this critical development will drive advances in a number of life-threatening conditions, many of which have no cure or effective treatment, including brain tumours, dementia, Parkinson’s disease,
Huntington’s disease, Ebola, and Bovine Tuberculosis.

The facility will augment what is fast becoming a hub of world-class expertise for health and medicine, sitting alongside Derriford Hospital, medical companies, the Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit and the NIHR Peninsula Clinical Research Network.

The future of medical research in the region gives us cause for optimism: we will find ways to improve the lives of the communities we serve and the people who are affected by serious diseases around the world.

The Plymouth Literature Project (PLP) aims to re articulate and promote the importance of reading and writing within our society and position Plymouth University as a dynamic hub for teaching, research and public engagement by combining our expertise with that of our partner, Literature Works.

To provide policy-makers with relevant research, we will develop an evaluation methodology to assess the impact of literature on society.

Our teaching and learning will be enriched by creative opportunities identified and supported through the project. With this project’s support and enhanced community and sector engagement, the local literary environment can grow to become one in which our graduates can develop successful careers as writers, editors, teachers, arts managers, publishers and future patrons of the Arts.

This project has the potential to produce strategies of national and international significance that will transform the literature landscape in the South West and far beyond.

Brain Tumour Research

Donate to Brain Tumour Research

Amount (£)

Description

More children and adults under 40 die of a brain tumour than from any other cancer and 55% of patients die within a year of diagnosis, yet brain tumour research receives just 1% of national spending on cancer research. This shortage of funding means a critical lack of researchers to find effective treatments.

Help us fund the fight against brain tumours. Together, we can make a difference.
